The Light Board at its July 20, 2023 meeting voted to increase the fixed monthly customer charge to pay for the costs to have temporary generators in place from December 1, 2023 to March 31, 2024. The temporary generators will power the entire town.
While no one wants to increase monthly costs, the impacts of loss of power in the winter months is challenging for residents and businesses. Loss of power and heat during the winter months can lead to serious safety issues. In addition, the loss of power and heat often results in costly repairs for frozen pipes and other building features
The generator surcharge will be in effect starting with the September 2023 billing period and will last for one year, concluding with the August 2024 billing period. The surcharge will raise $740,571.12 to pay for renting six generators for the winter months. This surcharge is in addition to the standard monthly fixed charges.
| Rate Class | Number of Customers | Additional Monthly Charge | Total Annual Additional Charge | Total Revenue Raised |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Residential | 5,813 | $9.50 | $114.00 | $662,682.00 |

We hope you will agree the benefits of having energy security during the coldest months of the year is worth this temporary increase to your fixed monthly charges. Thank you.
