We have brought back the town wide winter emergency generators for the fourth year. They will be in service between December 18, 2023 and March 31, 2024.
Like previous years, HMLP would activate the generators only if the two National Grid transmission lines coming into town from Hingham fail, and the entire town loses power. The generators do not activate when there is a loss of power in certain sections of town.
The time between National Grid transmission line failure and generator activation is approximately one to two hours. This time is needed to evaluate the location of the problem, and to dispatch our crews to prepare the generators to run. Once the generators are activated, power will be restored to the entire town, and the generators will run until National Grid restores their transmission lines, at which point, we will deactivate the generators and restore normal power to town.
